Something new to read…
My company is handing out coupons to the employees for 20% off any purchase at the local Borders bookstore next week, so I figure it’s a good time to do some book shopping. Anyone have any suggestions on some good reading?

Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson is a good mix of contemporary sci-fi with some good ol’ World War II historical fiction. Anything by Stephenson is good, though, and you may want to start with his first (popular) novel, Snow Crash, which is a cyberpunk bible.
Of course, if you’re not familiar with the cyberpunk subgenre of sci-fi (think of it as a Blade Runner-esque setting + a pervasive, Internet-like technology), then of course William Gibson’s Neuromancer is the place to start. The only risk with Neuromancer is that it’s been so ripped off by other books, movies, TV shows, etc. in the 18 years it’s been in publication that it might not seem as original and revolutionary as it did way back when.
