Planetside Future Plans

Sony Online Entertainment’s Planetside massively multiplayer online first person shooter (MMOFPS,) released last month and a game I’ve been playing a little of recently (my main character,) has announced many of their near term plans for the game.

Many cool things are in store for this game, including the much anticipated facility benefits, as well as some new vehicles (a bomber and an anti-air vehicle in the near term.) A couple of these have been implemented already, like the vehicle queue system that was in today’s patch, so they really are getting these plans implemented. It’s also very encouraging to see that several of these plans are rooted in player feedback from the forums, showing they are paying attention to the players. I (as well as some others I’m sure) even made the suggestion that continental locks (controlling an entire continent) should give Empire bonuses, therefore encouraging defense of continents you control, and it looks like that will become a reality.

All in all, Planetside has had some problems with it’s launch as any massive persistent world game has, in particular with lag and connection drops, but they are doing a good job of tackling those problems, while still keeping new developments streaming in. Planetside is a game I almost didn’t buy at first, but now I’m happy I did. Some of the battles in that game are simply amazing. And with the new updates planned for the near future, the game is going to get even more exciting as more objectives start coming into play. If you like first person shooters, this is one title to take a look at.
