America Backwards?
When I read that the our own government plans to set up a futures exchange for betting on terrorist attacks, I started thinking I somehow woke up in another country. This worries me on a couple levels. First, that our government has gotten so inhumane as to actually consider rewarding people when death and destruction happens. And secondly, that our government has gotten this desperate for information as to require going this far out on a limb. Is our government getting so focused on terrorism that it’s willing to put human decency aside to fight it? What’s next, government sanctioned anti-terrorism terrorism?
In unrelated news, I also read on the same page of my paper this morning that New York City is opening a public high school for gay, bisexual, and transgender students claiming this would be a safe haven from bullies and harrassment… Oh come on, did all of our politicians skip history class in school? Haven’t we been through this before? So in order to “protect” impressionable teenagers from harrasment, we are going to segregate them into their own school (basically telling them they are “different”,) hide them from any diversity, and expect them to function like anyone else after they are kicked back into the real world after 4 years. Fix your existing school system, Mayor Bloomberg. Don’t start a trend that sets our nation back 50 years.
There are times when I’m not so proud of some of those running our country.
Update: There’s still hope for us. The Pentagon has announced it is cancelling the plan to launch a futures exchange for terrorism (named FutureMAP.)
