Ultima X: Odyssey

Well, we didn’t get any Ultima Online 2, but Origin still has something up their sleeve. Gamespy has a preview of the upcoming Ultima X: Odyssey MMORPG. Promising to be focused more on the action and adventure and less on the social and economic elements, this could be the game to watch for those who don’t like spending hours just collecting resources so they can make their first bone knife, and sell it for a few pence.

Ultima X brings back much of the Ultima single-player series, including the Virtue system, utilizing that to provide multiple paths that can be taken to complete each quest. In any event, it’ll be interesting to see how well Origin does creating it’s first game in the Ultima universe without it’s creator, Richard Garriot.

  1. Ultima! so oldschool. Don’t even remember it much. Is it really all that?

  2. I didn’t play them myself a lot, but the virtue system is rather unique to Ultima where the way you behave determines the type of skills you gain.

The game I played a lot of in it’s time was Ultima Underworld, which was a first person variation of the standard 3rd person Ultima format. It was an awesome game at the time it came out.
