Verisign is the Devil
Verisign (whom acquired Network Solutions) has gone well over the line this time. They have gone beyond what is ethical in a position of a near monopoly on .com and .net domain names, and if allowed to continue down this path could get worse (like controlling what people would see from that search page.) It also changes the way domain lookups work (by providing a valid destination for invalid domains,) without notice, causing havoc with spamfilters among other things.
I highly recommend anyone running their own nameservers take action to block their sitefinder. If you run BIND, patch it. (more info) I will be doing that at work and at home myself shortly. I will also be removing the domains work has in Verisign’s registry, moving to another more responsible one.
I’ve disliked Network Solutions/Verisign for a long time due to their high prices, and extremely poor customer service. But this makes me downright furious.
Update: It appears that Verisign even has an MTA running rejecting mail. Who knows what they could be doing with the information they could collect that way.
