Women Outpace Men in Tech Purchases for 2003

I will admit to being suprised, although also encouraged, by this study reporting that women bought more technology then men in 2003 (although 1,002 participents I don’t believe defines a signficant sampling.) This is encouraging because that means technology is getting more user friendly and functional, and that women are embracing it more.

I’m not trying to say women are any less capable of operating electronics. I’m only saying that from my experiences, many men I know (including me) will buy electronics for as simple a reason as it beeps and has cool flashing LED’s or displays (admit it guys… how many of you have turned off your lights in your computer room or home theater room to watch all the flashing lights in the dark?), where as most women I know will only buy it if it does exactly what they want it to do.

But this is also good news because that means when that day comes that I find my soulmate, there’s still hope out there that she will have an understanding of my electronics addictions…

  1. Well…I’m of the opinion that most of those purchases are because women are buying them for their men…but I would love to be wrong. :)
I do agree that women are treated terribly when shopping for electronics. Every time I step into a Best Buy computer section without Dan, I’m treated like someone who has just landed on Mars and has no idea what’s going on around them. And God forbid I shop at *any* gaming store/gaming section. I must be either getting something for my child or my husband. Really, really pisses me off.

  2. i see blinking lights with my eyes closed.
    is that bad?
