And on the not so funny side of things, it’s with sadness that I read over at loonyblog. that Richard Biggs, who played Dr. Stephen Franklin on the science fiction television series Babylon 5, has passed away.

J. Michael Straczynski, the show’s creator, stated in the Babylon 5 newsgroup (read for full text) that the death was sudden and unexpected.

I was awakened today with several phone calls from cast members and Doug to pass along the terrible news that this morning, Richard Biggs passed away.

We’re still gathering information, so take none of this as firm word, but what seems to have happened, happened quickly. He woke up, got up out of bed…and went down. The paramedics who showed up suggested it was either an aneurysm or a massive stroke.

I’m a huge fan of Babylon 5. It’s one of my favorite all time series ever. In particular, it has what I feel is one of the richest storylines of any show I’ve watched significant portions of. Richard Biggs I felt did a great job with his role as the doctor. He was one of the best actors in the series. I was even just watching several epsiodes of season four yesterday.

He will be missed, and I feel for his family he leaves behind.
