Obsession?

Just when you thought a month was going to slip by without an update from me… ;)

A co-worker of mine has this thing he likes to say a lot, and that’s “A person can obsess about anything.” I think my problem is I like to obsess about everything. Maybe I’m excessive, but I tend to follow the mantra, “if you’re not going to do it the right way, why do it at all?”… except not doing it at all never seems to work with me.

Part of the reason for my lack of updates lately has just been a little lack of interest in posting about anything, but just as much of a contributor is the amount of “other” things I have going on. Just a sample… I went to that Celebrity Paintball game I mentioned in my previous entry (the Tac-One rocked!) and am working on some more paintball weekends, I have 3 active side contracts (work) going on right now, I’m working on expanding some of my own hosting infrastructure, I hired a new employee at my regular job (and still looking for another… any good sys admins out there in the Chicago area?), I offered to help my dad restore his 58 Corvette in Michigan (doing the research and planning part now), started working on a website to document that process (will present it when it has some content, I don’t want spiders grabbing it prematurely), I’m getting back into my poker playing (even bought new cards and chips just last week), I applied for a squad in Joint Operations which has mandatory practice sessions every week, I’m still playing my AD&D games every week but we are transitioning to a new campaign using the Palladium Fantasy Role-Playing Game system so I’ve been working on my new character for that, and I’m considering getting involved as one of the planners for next year’s HOPE Ride (I already offered to take over managing the website). Oh, and I’m starting the process to try buying a house.

… And that’s all off the top of my head about what’s been going on this month… I’m sure I missed some things. The obsession comes into play in that I don’t do any of these lightly…. such as the new Paintball marker I bought last month (over $1,000 in the marker and accessories), several new Palladium books (and lots of time working on my character history), some Corvette restoration resources and books, working on a whole CMS system for the Corvette website, etc…. Sleep is becoming a foreign word, yet I seem to keep doing more.

I don’t have a problem with commitment… I have a problem with over-commitment. :-D

More on many of these to come, but I didn’t want to go too long without an update (and my fan base of I think 2 was bugging me to post again… ;) ).

One Response to “Obsession?”

  1. One more person in your fan base and you’ll have a pyramid.

  2. Little late as usual… but here I am!!! (Can I be the point?) Oh wait, the smaller ones go on top.. Mike climb up! LOL

teehehehe.. just kidding, It was Allisons karma dripping down. I couldn’t resist.
